Moon Rise

Another Bryce-generated space scene, though this one is a little different from any other I had done previously. The Earth object was created by wrapping a “cartesian” projection map of the Earth around a sphere primitive created in Bryce. What’s a cartesian projection map? Have you ever seen a map of the Earth where the north and south poles stretch all the way across the top and bottom of the map? That’s a cartesian projection map, and if you can bring one into a 3D program and wrap it around a sphere using a simple spherical wrap, you’ve got yourself a planet!

I added some clouds to the Earth because the map I used didn’t have what I considered to be sufficient cloud cover. After rendering the image, I brought it into Photoshop and added my image of the first-quarter moon and a background of stars which you may or may not be able to make out depending on the brightness of your monitor.
