Jupiter & Saturn

Oh the joy of cartesian projection maps! Maps of Jupiter and Saturn were wrapped around spherical primitives in Bryce 4 with the light source positioned so as not to fully illuminate the spheres. The rings of Saturn were created in Photoshop using a screen capture from Starry Night Pro as a color reference. These rings were brought into Bryce and positioned and sized relative to the planet’s sphere primitive. It took me about an hour to create the rings in Photoshop and about twenty-five seconds for Bryce to render the final image.

The problem with trying to duplicate Saturn’s rings is that every image I can find shows them with different colors and different levels of detail. My only suggestion for anyone wishing to try their hand at something like this is to find an image you like and stick with that one as your color reference.
